Scarring develops due to a complication of acne.
Acne scars can occur in any type of acne, but they are more likely with inflammatory acne, which often shows as deep nodules and cysts. When acne develop deep within the skin, damage to the tissue may occur. Collagen is then produced when the body tries hard to heal these wounds.
You’ll see scarring, if too little or too much collagen is produced. The risk of scarring also increases if spots are picked, so it's vital to avoid doing this.
Although some scars may improve somewhat on their own, depending on the severity of the wound, and some scarring will be more difficult to reduce or remove than others.
