It is caused by the same virus, the human papillomavirus (HPV), but is typically found where there is pressure on the foot, such as under the big toe, ball of the foot, or heel. Verrucas are usually rough, circular in shape, and may have tiny black dots in the centre, which are blood clots in small blood vessels.

Though most commonly found on the face, chest, or back, seborrhoeic keratosis can develop anywhere on the body. They become more frequent with age, with over 90% of people aged 60 and above experiencing at least one.
